Why the First Run Takes Five Minutes
A short note on what the Foundation Training Run is actually teaching.
Hello friend,
Before we continue today, let’s pause together for a moment.
Not to solve anything.
Just to arrive.
Take one slow breath in.
And let it go.

Good.
We’ll always begin a Presence Shift the same way…
Answer
Quietly ask yourself:
What kind of moment is this for you right now?
Just a word or two.
No fixing.
No improving.
Just noticing where you are.
Intend
Take another breath.
As you exhale, set a simple intention:
For the next minute, I’ll place my full attention here.
Let that land.
Focus
Notice where your body is supported.
The chair.
The floor.
The ground beneath you.
Listen for the closest sound around you.
Then the next.
Let 100% of your attention settle here.
Flow
From this moment of presence, we’ll continue…

A few days ago I shared the free Foundation Training Run inside The Presence Shift app.
One of the quiet questions inside that first release is this:
Why does the first run take five minutes?
Why not make it shorter?
Why not let people move through it instantly?
Because the first run is not only there to explain the 5-step ritual.
It is there to let your nervous system feel the full rhythm of it once.
That matters.
The Presence Shift is simple:
Answer → Intend → Focus → Flow → Begin
But simple does not mean superficial.
The first time through it, the point is not merely to understand the words.
It is to feel the shape of it:
from noticing
to intending
to focusing
to flowing
to beginning
Repeating that ritual that will add more presence into your life.
In the app, the Foundation run moves at its own tempered pace because the first lesson is not speed.
It is trust.
Can you let the structure hold you for five minutes?
Can you feel what happens when the system doesn’t ask for endless explanation?
Can you notice what changes when the ritual ends cleanly and the next step of your day becomes yours again?
That’s what the first run is teaching.
Not performance.
Not optimization.
Not how to get through it faster.
It’s teaching the rhythm of returning to your day feeling present.
Once that rhythm becomes familiar, something important happens:
you begin recognizing it more easily in real life.
A breath.
A moment of naming.
A return to what’s here.
A clearer next step.
A cleaner beginning.
That’s why the first run takes five minutes.
Not to slow you down for its own sake.
But to give your nervous system the full pattern once, clearly enough to remember.
If you haven’t tried it yet, begin here:

And if you already have, I’d still love to hear:
what felt clear
what felt confusing
or what changed for you
Just reply to this email.
Over the coming weeks, more of the app will open in stages.
But this first run is the doorway.
Sometimes the first one matters more than we think.

And…
Begin
A Presence Shift is not complete until you begin.
Take one slow breath and relax your shoulders.

When you’re ready, begin the next step of your day.
Stay present,
